The time lapse video of my front garden

It’s been a while since my front garden was finished and I know the rain has been really miserable over the past few weeks, but it has kept my new plants happy and they’re already putting on some growth.

You may remember that my neighbour, Jim Incledon, put together a time lapse video of the construction and I am delighted to be able to share the finished article with you – I think it’s just fab!

Jim positioned the main camera on the roof the garage and then gave me another camera that we could position on the ground when anything interesting happened.  We filmed a different angle of things like the skip being changed over and the setts being laid.  This made editing easier because he was able to cut out the less interesting elements in an elegant way….like the guys eating their sandwiches!

Over the 8 days of filming, the cameras collectively took 96,000 images so it’s really amazing that Jim has been able to edit the film and get the running time down to just 3 minutes.  The real time film he added at the end I think finishes the whole thing off – some tranquil shots after the seemingly rather frantic construction process.

Jim’s company is Wild Productions and he predominantly films wildlife programmes.  You may remember the BBC documentary series The Bionic Vet which followed Noel Fitzpatrick, the pioneer of revolutionary surgical techniques that save and improve the lives of pets across the country.  Oscar the ‘Bionic Cat’ became famous overnight following surgery to replace his two back legs with bionic limbs.

Jim also makes the Wildlife SOS series for the satellite channel Animal Planet.  Most of his filming takes place at the Wildlife Aid rescue centre in Leatherhead, but he often travels abroad and has filmed in countries such as Australia and Belize and he’s also been swimming with great white sharks in South Africa – rather him than me!

From the drawing board: construction of my front garden – Day 1

The construction phase of my own front garden started yesterday and as I don’t often get to see the daily progress on a project, I thought it would be a nice idea to share each stage with you.  It’s only a small space really, but there was quite a bit of clearance to do and already we have filled one skip and we have arranged for a replacement tomorrow.
