A week or so ago I blogged about the terrace redesign at my Wandsworth project, which has come on a treat over the last couple of years.  Whilst I was there I also took some images of the front garden which, since it was planted in December last year, has really started to fill out too.

I was a couple of weeks late for the lavender and euphorbia to be looking at their best, but by next summer there should be a big difference to the planting when it’s gone through it’s full set of seasons.

We used a sawn York stone for the driveway and paving so that it tied in with the style of the house and fitted with the sawn York stone step that was already in place.  It still looks as good as it did when it was newly laid.  It’s such a beautiful stone.

Here’s a reminder of how it looked before the redesign…

There was a lot going on with the hard landscaping with far too many different materials.  But most of all it looked scruffy and detracted from the architectural beauty of the house.

The solution was simple really, widen the drive to allow easy parking and access to the front door, and to smarten up the area outside the lounge window so that it look tidy, attractive and provided a focal point.

We painted the bin store and replaced the side gate so that it matched in with the front door of the house, and kept the planting simple with evergreen plants to keep the maintenance to a minimum.

I’m really pleased with the way the planting has filled out over the last few months – this year has been quite challenging with the extreme temperatures and weather conditions, but it’s all looking healthy and I can’t wait to see how it progresses over the next couple of years.

We finally got around to doing some work in our own garden this weekend.  The sunshine and warmth helped to get the motivation going and we spent a bit of time in the front, weeding and moving a couple of things around. Read more

It’s been a while since my front garden was finished and I know the rain has been really miserable over the past few weeks, but it has kept my new plants happy and they’re already putting on some growth. Read more

I hope you’ve been enjoying the last few blog posts about the construction of my front garden.  The hard landscaping was finished yesterday and it’s looking gorgeous now even without plants in the ground or paint on the rendered walls.  I wanted the share the last 2 days of construction with you because the transformation yesterday once the gravel went in was quite dramatic. Whilst I have been out and about at various meetings this week, progress has continued in my front garden.  So far we have around 20 mins of time-lapsed video so I think it will need some serious editing before I post it here for you to see!  Days 2 and 3 were predominantly focussed on the walls and excavation of soil to prepare for the sub-base which is being installed as I write. The construction phase of my own front garden started yesterday and as I don’t often get to see the daily progress on a project, I thought it would be a nice idea to share each stage with you.  It’s only a small space really, but there was quite a bit of clearance to do and already we have filled one skip and we have arranged for a replacement tomorrow. New plans for my own front garden

I have been chipping away at “my client” over the past couple of years and I am so excited that finally we are going to do something with our very uninspiring front garden.  It’s really quite small, but we have space for one small car and there is scope to introduce a more attractive area outside the lounge window.  As work will commence at some point in March, I thought you might like to see the plans.  This is how it looks now… Read more

From the drawing board: Concept sketches for a modified front garden in Surrey

On Friday I met with a local Interior Designer, who I work with quite regularly, to present the concept design idea for the new garage area at their home.  You may remember that I redesigned the couryard area outside their new office a while back.  The hard landscaped elements for the courtyard are finished and we will be ready to plant in the Spring.  Due to the expansion of their business, they will now be moving the office away from their home and this has created an opportunity to create a new garage area.
